LoneStarCon 2, the 1997 Worldcon: Program Questionnaire Cover Letter
Howdy!
lthough it's still winter and Worldcon seems far away, it's time
to plant the seeds for a bountiful end-of-summer harvest. On
Labor Day weekend Texas will host the World Science Fiction Convention
for the first time ever. We're beginning to organize the program
and we need your help.
San Antonio is a popular travel city. Besides Worldcon, you'll
have the opportunity to visit the Alamo and other historic missions,
the lovely Brackenridge Zoo, Fiesta Texas theme park, SeaWorld
and our own LSC2 Chili Cook-Off! Our convention is set on the
Riverwalk, an exciting collection of shops and restaurants, including
the Riverwalk Mall, all a cool 10 degrees below sidewalk level. Our
convention center and hotels are in a tight cluster for easy
walking.
The rewards and benefits for the science fiction professional
attending Worldcon are many:
- Meet your fans, old and new
- Get feedback on your work
- Network with publishers, editor, art directors
- Swap trade secrets with your peers
- Create sales opportunities for your work
We promise that the amount of time you may spend in programming
will be a small part of your weekend, and there'll be plenty of
time for you to enjoy the convention and the city. As with most
North American Worldcons, you'll need to have a membership in
order to participate in programming. We'll make every effort
to reimburse the membership of those who are active contributors.
We hope you'll take the time to fill out the enclosed questionnaire
and return it to us. We also hope you'll plant the chili pepper
seeds and think about how much fun you'll have in San Antonio.
