e have less than ten months to plan and execute the 1997 WorldCon. This daunting task is being undertaken by folks from all over the world with encouragement, work and determination. The idea of a WorldCon in Texas was bounced around for years both before and after the 1985 NASFiC in Austin. When we chose San Antonio as our location the gears slowly began to move. Now the machine is steadily working toward this goal.
We want the 1997 WorldCon to be a true Texas experience for each person who attends either in actuality or in the growing virtual world. We are working with the diverse cultural mix that is San Antonio and South Texas in all aspects of our planning. WorldCon, I feel should be a fun, relaxing time for us to share those few precious days we have together each year.
Our office hours have expanded to three days a week through the end of the year. Our office will be open Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday evenings from 6:00 until after late. After the first of the year, the hours will expand further. Our office is located at 1204 Nueces, Suite F, which opens onto the large parking lot at the back of the building. It is only blocks away from out state capitol as befits our goal of hosting Texas' first WorldCon. The phone number is still (512) 472-9944 and fax (512) 472-4290. Our mailing address remains the same: P.O. Box 27277, Austin, Texas 78755, our e-mail address is alamo@alamo-sf.org.
As always, we want and need your participation by volunteering, giving us your ideas and suggestions. Let us know what we can do to make the WorldCon in 1997 special for you.
